It is an International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) requirement that Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs) are reviewed every 5 years. Following our Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) IFP Design accreditation, Cyrrus were contracted to complete a full review of Kerry Airport’s published IFPs. This included all Instrument Approach Procedures (IAPs) and Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs) associated with Runway 08/26. As part of the review process, Cyrrus incorporated the presence of a proposed Wind Farm into the ‘obstacle field’ which was assessed as part of the procedure design review.
As a result of the Wind Turbine locations and elevations, Cyrrus were required to redesign the Runway 26 approaches. The descent gradient was changed from a 3° to a 3.5° descent gradient to mitigate the presence of the Wind Farm and to maintain low procedure minimas.
Following acceptance of the reviews/redesigns by the IAA, the procedures were Flight Checked and are now published in the Irish Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP).
